When I go to ‘customize theme’ and see the preview of the page, the social icons in the footer show up fine:
However, when I go to the published site in Mac Chrome 65.0.3325.162, boxes are showing:
This is what I have in the social icon shortcode box under Theme Options->Header and Footer:

The icons also show fine when using Safari. Seems to be a problem unique to Chrome?
