How to get recentposts like free version

I want to have my recent posts section to appear like it does in the free version of the template, a simple list without images, can someone point me in the right direction on how to accomplish this?

I have tried [recentposts], [recentposts col=”1″], [recentposts show=”3″]. I am using section 1 and want to get a page width list, without images, of blog posts – very compact.
